Honestly

October 15, 2018

By John Montesi

Poetry

If I had known that being honest

Would cost so much

I would have learned to lie

When I was young.

If I had known that sharing my thoughts

Would scare you away

I would have looked into your fierce, soft eyes

And said what you wanted to hear.

If the truth will set you free

Then maybe freedom

Is overrated.
